In the documentary "People Like Me", I learn that American's are divided by class. How people are in a certain class because of how they look, dress, what they eat, their education, where they live, how far they have to walk to school and by their family.I realize that class is everywhere.Class can be determining by what kind food you eat.for example in the video it show how you can determining what class a person is in by what kind of bread they eat.I don't agree with that because if I can buy the expensive brand bread but I prefer to eat a bread that is 99 cent doesn't mean that I belong to the lower class.the video also talk about how people that reach the top.the upper class is because of money, family name and attitude.those who belong and those who don't.
The Tammy story at the end was very touching because here is a mother a single mother who is taking care of her 4 kinds by working a Burger King. She work hard very hard she was born in a poor class. No matter how hard she work she still stuck where she is.One of the thing that got to me is when her son feels like he is better then her and his brother.I understand the pressure of going to school and being around the upper class peers but at the end of the day he still is in the poor class.
Social class,we are all players. As we discuss in class the class we born in we mostly like going to stay in that class. As we grow we separate ourselves from people that don.'t fit in the group or social class.

Deviance
Deviance is breaking a social rule or refusing to follow one. A deviant act can also voilate a moral or social rule that may not have legal consequences (Sociology Now:Essential pg152). Deviant act can be committed in one society or culture that breaks a social norm there, but may be considered normal for another culture and society. For example a man dressing like woman, thats committing a Deviant Act.Some acts of deviance may be criminal acts.I realize my doings are Deviant and also i learn that an individual can be call Deviant because of the people who they hang with. For example, hanging with your friends that smoke and drinking underage, yea you don't do it but you are still classify as being Deviant.

Gender Socialization
"Killing Us Softly" is a video discussing how women are being view .Jean Kilbourne talks about how the ads show how woman should look like, how woman should act,how woman is just objects and also how woman have no saying.Jean show ads that illustrated how woman wants to be skinny and wants big breast and butts. How woman should be "passive and man should be "active".She talks about how woman do different things to theirselves to please society.Woman change their looks for others. She also talks about how in ads they would make woman look a certain way by using computer to make themselve look perfect,by they doing that it influence woman that they need to look like that. She also talks about ads that show woman with their hands over their mouth.Meaning that woman have no say.Woman is just sex symbols, they are weak and they are just property. She talks about how how it start from an early age for woman. As children growing up they will see all thses advertisement of how they have to wear makeup to look pretty and their bodies have to look a certain way.I never actually look at ads and advertisement in this way.this video really open up my eyes because I would have never thought that the ads mean more than it does. What really struck out to me is that theyuse woman in all different type of way.For example in one of the ads they use woman as skateboard. They show a man has his leg on top of the woman back as a skateboard ad.They also use woman body has perfume.
"A Call to Man" Tony Porter talks about how men should act and how they should always be tough, stronge, show no emotion and no fears. He call these "Man Box".Man box is things man should fellow,be the decision maker, view woman as property and object, don't be like woman, don't show weakness and fear.He talks about a turn in point when he had to stop the man box when his son would cry he would tell him to go in his room and get himselve together, when he ready to talk like a man he can come back. His son was 5yrs old.He was so use to the man box that he wanted to raise his son just like that.He came to a realization that his son is just 5yrs old.He realize that his daughter would cry to him and he would hold her and when his son cry he would tell him to be man.It should be equal. No matter if its a boy or a girl.He was raise on not showing emotion he wanted to raise his son just like that.He wanted to build him on that .Also he talks about how his father would not cry infront of his mother and aunts because he didn't want the woman see him showing emotion.Another situation Mr.Porter talks about when his "Man Box Card" was in jeopardy. When he had to act like he had sex with the young lady because if he didn't he would have been breaking the Man box rule, woman being a sex symbol and object. He rather at that time to to keep his Man Box Card then losing it.
The two video is related to chapter 5 Socilization because in chapter five,Gender socialization is a process by wich females and males are taught the apprpriate behaviors, attitudes and traits for their biological sex.As said in Chapter 5 Socilization 'boys and girls are suppose expected to learn two entirely different set of social norms"(pg145) Boys are expected to be tough, aggressive, loud and athletic and girls to be sensitive, passive, quiet, and nonathletic.(pg147).Just like Tony Porter said about the Man box and also when he show his reaction to his daughter crying and his son crying.he had two different approach.Killing Us Softly related to chapter 5Socilization because like Jean kilbroune talks about how ads and advisement show woman how they suppose to look and if they don't look like that way they are ugly.In chapter 5 they talk about how media has alot to do to howyoung woman wants to look.Alot young girls see how woman look on television and they are inspire by that. Also just like woman should be femine. As Jean show in the ads woman as all these makeup on,they are sex symbols, nothing more nothing less. Also when they say girls are suppose to be quiet. In some of the ads Jean show it shows that woman don't use their mouth to say things they use their hands and eyes.I feel like these are unwritten rules, these are rules that society,we the people makes up.We not going to go to jail if we don't follow these rules have being weak, not show emotions, being active and passive but we probably going to get look down on.For example past history their wasn't no woman police officer but today they are.MWoman wasn't suppose to do manly things and woman should just fellow what their husband do and say as Tony Porter was saying. That was part of the Man Box.These are norms that we the people chose to fellow,

Society
I realize that society have alot of affect on an individual.Reading chapter 3 open my eyes to society in a different way.In society everybody has a role and society expect that we live up to them roles. We live in the same society but we are different in alot of ways.We group with people who has the same characteristic as ourselves. What really struck me was the behavior of impression management.Erving Goffman talks about how people change not only because of other people's reactions but also of the actively try to present ourselves to other people.(Goffman1959).For example the way I act when am with my friends.,joking, acting out thats not the way I would be acting at work.We act a certain way because we know our peers approve of it.

culture
today i realize that culture makes up some parts of you, meaning its something we doing everyday.like praying before going to bed and when we wake up.Also praying before eatting on the dinner table.the way we dress, speak and also how we act can be a part of our culture. I was morning in Jamaica and in my culture the children must wake up and get dress every sunday morning and go to sunday school and fridays youth fellowship.i never really understand why but i did it because i had to.Also every saturday me and my cousin woul have chores we do every saturday like cleaning the house, washing the bath tube, wiping the floors etc,but as time go by those type of rituals we had to do dont really exist nomore because of the time period and also because of the new generatation.
